Cortisol Circadian Rhythm

Meaning

The Cortisol Circadian Rhythm refers to the predictable, approximately 24-hour cyclical pattern of secretion and concentration of the glucocorticoid hormone cortisol, orchestrated by the suprachiasmatic nucleus in the hypothalamus. This rhythm is characterized by a sharp rise in the early morning, known as the Cortisol Awakening Response, followed by a gradual decline throughout the day, reaching its nadir around midnight. Maintaining a robust and appropriately timed rhythm is vital for metabolic regulation, immune function, and stress resilience.
