Cortisol Acrophase Modulation

Meaning

This is the targeted clinical intervention aimed at adjusting the timing, or acrophase, of the peak daily secretion of the glucocorticoid hormone cortisol. A healthy cortisol acrophase typically occurs shortly after waking, facilitating the necessary physiological arousal for diurnal activity. Modulation strategies are employed when this natural peak is delayed, advanced, or blunted, indicating dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
