Corticotroph

Meaning

A corticotroph is a specialized endocrine cell found within the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. These cells are primarily responsible for the synthesis and secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone, commonly known as ACTH. ACTH, in turn, acts upon the adrenal cortex, stimulating the production and release of cortisol, a vital glucocorticoid involved in numerous physiological processes.
