Corticosteroid Axis Modulation

Meaning

Corticosteroid Axis Modulation refers to the clinical strategy of precisely adjusting the activity of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis, which is the body’s master stress response system and regulator of cortisol and other corticosteroids. Modulation becomes necessary when chronic stress, inflammation, or disease leads to HPA axis dysfunction, resulting in inappropriate or dysregulated cortisol secretion patterns. The primary goal is to re-establish the healthy diurnal rhythm and ensure appropriate, adaptive stress responsiveness.
