Cortical Focus Threshold

Meaning

The Cortical Focus Threshold represents the minimum level of physiological arousal and neurochemical activity required within the prefrontal cortex and associated attentional networks to sustain deep concentration and cognitive performance. This threshold is intrinsically linked to the optimal balance of catecholamines, specifically norepinephrine and dopamine, in the cortical circuits. When arousal is below this threshold, attention wanders; when significantly above it, anxiety and cognitive rigidity can ensue. Clinically, managing this threshold is key to maximizing executive function and minimizing mental fatigue.
