Coronary Artery Disease

Meaning

Coronary Artery Disease, often abbreviated as CAD, is a medical condition characterized by the narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, the vital blood vessels supplying oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscle. This typically results from atherosclerosis, a process where fatty deposits, known as plaque, accumulate on the inner walls of these arteries. Over time, this buildup restricts blood flow, potentially leading to ischemia or inadequate oxygen supply to the myocardium.
