Copeptin

Meaning

Copeptin is the C-terminal fragment of the arginine vasopressin (AVP) prohormone. It is released equimolarly with mature AVP, a crucial hormone for fluid balance and vascular tone. As AVP is unstable and rapidly cleared, copeptin serves as a stable, reliable surrogate biomarker for AVP secretion, offering a practical advantage in clinical assessment.
