Conventional Sleep Aids

Meaning

Conventional Sleep Aids encompass a range of pharmaceutical and over-the-counter agents traditionally used to induce or maintain sleep, including sedative-hypnotics, benzodiazepines, and certain antihistamines. While effective for acute insomnia, these agents do not address the underlying hormonal and neurological causes of chronic sleep disruption and can profoundly impact the delicate neuroendocrine axes. Chronic use may lead to dependency, rebound insomnia, and an alteration of the natural circadian rhythm and the nocturnal release of growth hormone and melatonin.
