Continuous Administration

Meaning

A pharmacological dosing strategy where a therapeutic agent, such as a hormone or peptide, is delivered to the body without significant interruption, aiming to maintain a relatively steady-state concentration in the systemic bloodstream. This method contrasts sharply with pulsatile or intermittent dosing and is often employed to achieve consistent biological effects or to downregulate specific receptors through persistent exposure. The goal is sustained therapeutic levels without significant peaks or troughs.
