Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia

Meaning

Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) represents a group of inherited genetic disorders that impair the adrenal glands’ ability to produce essential steroid hormones, specifically cortisol and often aldosterone. This deficiency leads to an overproduction of adrenal androgens, which are male hormones, due to a compensatory increase in adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) from the pituitary gland.
