COMT Genotype

Meaning

COMT Genotype refers to an individual’s specific genetic variations within the catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) gene. This gene codes for an enzyme essential in metabolizing catecholamines like dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine, alongside catechol estrogens. The most clinically relevant polymorphism, Val158Met (rs4680), significantly influences enzyme activity and affects physiological processes.
