Compromised Liver Function

Meaning

Compromised Liver Function describes any state where the liver’s capacity to perform its essential metabolic, synthetic, and regulatory duties is diminished due to injury, disease, or chronic stress. This impairment significantly affects hormonal health because the liver is the primary site for hormone metabolism, conjugation, and clearance from the circulation. Reduced liver function can lead to an accumulation of hormones, such as estrogens and androgens, or impaired conversion of pro-hormones, disrupting systemic endocrine balance. Clinical assessment often relies on measuring liver enzymes and synthetic capacity markers.
