Compromised Gut Barrier

Meaning

This condition refers to an impaired integrity of the intestinal epithelial lining, often termed “leaky gut,” where the tight junctions between enterocytes become dysfunctional, leading to increased permeability of the gut wall. This structural compromise allows the unregulated passage of luminal contents, including undigested food particles, bacterial endotoxins, and antigens, into the systemic circulation.
