Comprehensive Metabolic Panels

Meaning

A Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) is a standard clinical diagnostic tool that measures 14 specific substances in the blood, providing a snapshot of a patient’s current metabolic status, kidney function, and electrolyte and acid-base balance. The panel includes measurements of glucose, calcium, proteins (total protein and albumin), and liver function tests (ALP, ALT, AST, bilirubin), alongside key electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate) and kidney markers (BUN, creatinine). Clinicians utilize this broad array of biomarkers to screen for, diagnose, and monitor a wide range of metabolic and systemic disorders, informing personalized treatment plans.
