Compensated Hypogonadism

Meaning

Compensated hypogonadism describes a clinical state where the testes exhibit primary dysfunction, producing insufficient testosterone, yet the pituitary gland attempts to counteract this deficiency by significantly increasing its secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH). This elevated LH stimulation aims to normalize testosterone production; however, despite this compensatory effort, circulating testosterone levels may remain at the lower end of the reference range or even subtly below it, indicating a persistent, albeit partially masked, gonadal insufficiency.
