Companion Diagnostic

Meaning

A Companion Diagnostic (CDx) is an in vitro diagnostic device or assay that provides information essential for the safe and effective use of a corresponding therapeutic product, typically a drug. This diagnostic tool is crucial in the era of personalized medicine, as it helps determine if a specific treatment is appropriate for an individual patient based on their unique biological profile, such as the presence or absence of a specific biomarker. In hormonal health, a CDx might identify a particular receptor status or genetic mutation that predicts a favorable response to a targeted hormone therapy or modulator. It links a diagnostic test directly to a specific therapeutic intervention.
