Combined Oral Contraceptives

Meaning

Combined Oral Contraceptives (COCs) are pharmaceutical agents taken by mouth that contain synthetic forms of both estrogen and progestin, designed to prevent pregnancy. These medications are also frequently utilized in clinical practice to manage various endocrine-related conditions, including polycystic ovary syndrome, dysmenorrhea, and abnormal uterine bleeding. The consistent, exogenous delivery of these steroid hormones effectively overrides the natural ovarian cycle.
