Combined Hormonal Contraceptives

Meaning

Combined hormonal contraceptives (CHCs) are pharmacological agents that contain synthetic versions of both estrogen and progestin, utilized primarily for highly effective and reversible pregnancy prevention. These formulations are available as oral pills, transdermal patches, and vaginal rings, offering various routes of systemic delivery. Beyond their primary contraceptive role, CHCs are also frequently prescribed to manage various gynecological conditions, including dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia, and symptoms associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
