Colon Polyps

Meaning

Colon polyps are abnormal, localized growths of tissue that project from the inner lining, or mucosa, of the large intestine. These mucosal lesions are clinically significant because certain subtypes, specifically adenomas, are recognized as precursors that carry the potential for malignant transformation into colorectal cancer. Their presence is a common finding in the adult population, and while often asymptomatic, they require clinical surveillance and removal to mitigate oncological risk. The presence of polyps can sometimes be linked to systemic inflammatory and metabolic dysregulation.
