Cohort Study

Meaning

A Cohort Study is a type of observational epidemiological research design where a defined group of individuals, or a cohort, is followed over a period of time to observe the incidence of a specific outcome, such as a disease or physiological change. Researchers compare the outcomes between a subgroup exposed to a particular factor, like a hormonal therapy or lifestyle element, and a subgroup not exposed. This longitudinal design is invaluable in the field of endocrinology for investigating the long-term health effects and risk factors associated with various hormonal statuses and interventions. The study structure allows for the calculation of incidence rates and relative risks.
