Cognitive Load Theory is a framework in cognitive science that describes the limits of working memory and the factors that influence its capacity during learning and problem-solving. It posits that instructional or environmental demands can impose three types of load: intrinsic (inherent task difficulty), extraneous (non-essential information processing), and germane (schema construction and learning). Managing these loads is critical for optimizing the brain’s ability to acquire and process new information efficiently.
