Cognitive Bottleneck

Meaning

A Cognitive Bottleneck describes a temporary or chronic limitation in the brain’s capacity to process, store, or retrieve information efficiently, often resulting in impaired executive function and mental fatigue. In the context of hormonal health, this limitation frequently stems from neuroendocrine imbalances, such as suboptimal thyroid function, adrenal dysregulation, or fluctuating sex steroid levels. Patients may experience symptoms like “brain fog,” difficulty concentrating, or reduced mental acuity, indicating a constraint on the neural system’s overall throughput. Addressing underlying hormonal disruptions is a key strategy for relieving this constraint and restoring mental clarity.
