Clotting Cascade

Meaning

The Clotting Cascade, or coagulation cascade, is a complex, sequential series of biochemical reactions involving numerous plasma proteins, known as clotting factors, that culminate in the formation of a fibrin clot. This vital physiological process is the body’s primary defense mechanism against blood loss following vascular injury. In hormonal health, certain hormones, such as estrogen, can significantly modulate the activity of this cascade, influencing thrombosis risk.
