CLOCK and BMAL1

Meaning

A pair of core transcriptional factors, CLOCK (Circadian Locomotor Output Cycles Kaput) and BMAL1 (Brain and Muscle ARNT-Like 1), that form a heterodimer to drive the molecular clock mechanism in nearly all cells of the body. These proteins are the master regulators of the circadian rhythm, orchestrating the daily timing of numerous physiological processes, including the pulsatile release of key hormones and metabolic cycles. Their synchronized function is paramount for maintaining metabolic and endocrine health and promoting longevity.
