Clinical Neuroendocrinology

Meaning

Clinical Neuroendocrinology is a specialized interdisciplinary field that investigates the complex interactions between the nervous system and the endocrine system in human health and disease. It focuses specifically on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders arising from the dysfunction of the neuroendocrine axes, such as the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) or hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axes. This discipline integrates principles of neurology, psychiatry, and endocrinology to understand how hormones influence brain function and behavior, and conversely, how the brain regulates hormonal output. Conditions addressed range from stress-related disorders and mood changes to pituitary tumors and central diabetes insipidus.
