Cirrhosis

Meaning

Cirrhosis represents the end-stage of chronic liver disease, characterized by extensive hepatic fibrosis, the formation of regenerative nodules, and a profound disruption of the normal liver architecture. This progressive condition leads to severe impairment of liver function, significantly compromising its metabolic, detoxification, and endocrine regulatory roles. Clinically, it is a state of irreversible scarring that dictates complex systemic consequences, often leading to portal hypertension and secondary hormonal imbalances.
