Circadian Disruption

Meaning

Circadian Disruption refers to a significant misalignment between the body’s intrinsic 24-hour biological clock and the external environment’s light-dark cycle or the individual’s social schedule. This physiological state results from irregular sleep-wake patterns, shift work, or chronic exposure to artificial light at night, leading to desynchronization of peripheral tissue clocks from the central pacemaker. The resulting hormonal and metabolic dysregulation can significantly impair overall health, increasing the risk of chronic cardiometabolic diseases.
