Circadian Disruption Syndromes

Meaning

A heterogeneous group of clinical conditions characterized by a misalignment between the body’s internal biological clock and the external environment or the individual’s required sleep-wake schedule. These syndromes result in chronic desynchronization of the endocrine system, profoundly impacting metabolic health, mood stability, and overall hormonal homeostasis. Clinically, they often present as persistent insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness, or other neurobehavioral deficits.
