Circadian Chemistry

Meaning

Circadian Chemistry refers to the rhythmic, approximately 24-hour oscillations in the concentration and activity of hormones, neurotransmitters, and other biochemical compounds that regulate physiological function. This endogenous timing system, governed by the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) in the hypothalamus, orchestrates the cyclical release of key endocrine messengers, such as the diurnal rhythm of cortisol and melatonin. Maintaining robust circadian chemistry is paramount for endocrine health, as disruptions can lead to metabolic dysfunction, immune dysregulation, and hormonal imbalance.
