Chrousos Syndrome

Meaning

Chrousos Syndrome, also known as primary generalized familial glucocorticoid resistance, represents a rare genetic disorder characterized by the body’s target tissues exhibiting a diminished responsiveness to the hormone cortisol. This condition arises from impaired glucocorticoid receptor function, necessitating higher circulating cortisol levels to achieve normal physiological effects. Consequently, the adrenal glands are stimulated to produce excessive amounts of cortisol and other adrenal steroids, including androgens and mineralocorticoids, in an attempt to overcome this cellular resistance.
