Chronophototherapy

Meaning

Chronophototherapy is a clinical intervention that utilizes precisely timed exposure to specific wavelengths of light to modulate the body’s circadian rhythm and, consequently, the cyclical release of key hormones. This therapeutic approach targets the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) in the hypothalamus, the body’s central clock, to correct misaligned biological timing. The goal is to synchronize endogenous hormonal rhythms with the external light-dark cycle. It is a non-pharmacological strategy for addressing sleep disorders and hormonal imbalances related to circadian disruption.
