Chronobiology of Metabolism

Meaning

The chronobiology of metabolism is the specialized scientific field dedicated to studying the intrinsic, rhythmic organization of metabolic processes, including energy expenditure, nutrient utilization, and hormone secretion, across the approximately 24-hour cycle known as the circadian rhythm. This discipline investigates how the body’s internal biological clock, synchronized by environmental cues like light and feeding times, dictates the optimal temporal scheduling for metabolic activities. Disruption of this rhythmic timing, or chronodisruption, is strongly implicated in the pathogenesis of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and other endocrine disorders.
