Chronic Stress Physiology

Meaning

Chronic Stress Physiology is the persistent state of physiological and endocrine dysregulation resulting from prolonged exposure to perceived or actual stressors, leading to allostatic overload. This condition is clinically characterized by sustained activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and subsequent alterations in cortisol, catecholamine, and other regulatory hormone secretion. Chronic stress physiology significantly compromises metabolic, immune, and reproductive health over time. It is a major driver of age-related decline.
