Chronic Stimulation Pathology

Meaning

A state of physiological dysfunction or disease resulting from the prolonged, excessive, or unremitting activation of a biological system, particularly within the neuroendocrine axis. This sustained signaling leads to receptor desensitization, cellular exhaustion, and ultimately, a breakdown of homeostatic regulation. Clinically, this is often observed in conditions stemming from chronic stress, which relentlessly drives the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
