Chronic Immune Activation

Meaning

Chronic Immune Activation is a pathological state characterized by the persistent, non-resolving, and low-grade stimulation of both the innate and adaptive arms of the immune system. This sustained inflammatory signaling, often termed “inflammaging” in the context of biological aging, represents a significant and detrimental deviation from a healthy, transient immune response necessary for protection. It is a powerful driver of systemic tissue damage, metabolic dysfunction, and the pathogenesis of numerous chronic diseases, including cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, and autoimmune conditions.
