Chronic Hyperinsulinemia

Meaning

Chronic Hyperinsulinemia is defined as a sustained, elevated concentration of insulin circulating in the bloodstream, a condition often observed as a compensatory response to peripheral insulin resistance. This state indicates that the pancreatic beta cells are working excessively to overcome the reduced responsiveness of target tissues like muscle, fat, and liver to the insulin signal. It is a key pathophysiological feature preceding the onset of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and is closely linked to metabolic syndrome.
