Chromosomal Integrity

Meaning

The structural and functional soundness of the chromosomes within the cell nucleus, encompassing the stability of the DNA sequence, the maintenance of telomere length, and the proper organization of the chromatin structure. High chromosomal integrity is a prerequisite for accurate cell division, robust gene expression, and resistance to malignant transformation. Loss of integrity, often manifested as DNA damage accumulation or telomere attrition, is a primary driver of cellular senescence and age-related pathology. It is a critical biomarker of biological age.
