Cholelithiasis

Meaning

Cholelithiasis is the clinical condition characterized by the formation and presence of gallstones, which are solid concretions typically composed of cholesterol or bilirubin, within the gallbladder or biliary tree. This common digestive pathology can lead to biliary colic, cholecystitis, or more severe complications requiring intervention. Hormonal fluctuations, especially elevated estrogen exposure, are recognized risk factors for the development of these calculi in susceptible individuals.
