Chemical Menopause

Meaning

Chemical menopause is a specific clinical state of induced, temporary ovarian suppression resulting in a profound state of hypoestrogenism, effectively mimicking the hormonal profile of natural menopause. This condition is intentionally precipitated by the therapeutic administration of certain medications, most commonly the Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) agonists or antagonists. It serves as a calculated therapeutic strategy utilized to manage various hormone-sensitive conditions, including severe endometriosis, symptomatic uterine fibroids, and specific types of hormone-dependent cancers.
