Chemical Contaminants

Meaning

Chemical contaminants are exogenous substances, often synthetic or naturally occurring compounds present at unnatural concentrations, that can enter the human body through various routes, including ingestion, inhalation, or dermal absorption. These compounds are not inherently beneficial for physiological function and, when accumulated, can disrupt normal biological processes, leading to health detriments. Their presence signifies an unwanted addition to an environment or biological system.
