Chemical Contaminants

Meaning

Chemical contaminants are exogenous substances, often synthetic or industrial byproducts, present in the environment, food, or consumer products that can inadvertently enter the human physiological system. In the domain of hormonal health, these contaminants are of particular concern when they act as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), interfering with the synthesis, secretion, transport, binding, or elimination of endogenous hormones. Exposure to these agents, even at low concentrations, poses a tangible threat to the delicate balance of the endocrine system.
