CGRP Inhibitors

Meaning

Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide (CGRP) inhibitors are a class of pharmacological agents specifically designed to modulate the activity of CGRP, a neuropeptide implicated in nociception and neurogenic inflammation. These therapeutic compounds work by either binding directly to the CGRP molecule itself, preventing it from interacting with its receptor, or by blocking the CGRP receptor, thereby interrupting the signaling pathway associated with pain transmission and vasodilation. Their primary purpose is to reduce the frequency and severity of certain headache disorders.
