Cerebrovascular Remodelling

Meaning

Cerebrovascular Remodelling refers to the dynamic structural and functional adaptations of the blood vessels within the brain, encompassing arteries, arterioles, capillaries, and veins. This physiological process involves changes in vessel diameter, wall thickness, and the density of the microvascular network, often in response to chronic physiological demands or injury. Positive remodelling supports optimal cerebral blood flow and the integrity of the blood-brain barrier, which is essential for nutrient delivery and waste clearance. Conversely, maladaptive remodelling contributes to vascular cognitive impairment and neurological decline.
