Cerebrospinal Fluid Flow

Meaning

The continuous, pulsatile movement of the clear, colorless fluid that circulates within the ventricles of the brain and the subarachnoid space surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) is vital for cushioning the central nervous system, maintaining intracranial pressure, and, critically, acting as a medium for waste clearance. Efficient CSF flow is integral to the glymphatic system, the brain’s waste removal mechanism, which is most active during sleep and plays a crucial role in removing metabolic byproducts and potentially neurotoxic proteins.
