The term “CEO Hormone” colloquially describes oxytocin, a neurohypophysial hormone and neuropeptide synthesized in the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary gland. It is widely recognized for its pivotal role in prosocial behaviors, including social bonding, trust formation, and empathy, traits often observed in effective leadership contexts.

Context

Oxytocin operates within both the central nervous system as a neuromodulator and in the periphery as a peptide hormone. Its synthesis occurs in magnocellular neurons of the paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei of the hypothalamus, with subsequent release into the systemic circulation from the posterior pituitary, influencing a broad spectrum of physiological and behavioral processes.
