Central Fatigue

Meaning

Central Fatigue refers to a reduction in the ability to initiate and sustain voluntary muscle contraction that originates within the central nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord. This phenomenon is distinct from peripheral fatigue, which occurs at the neuromuscular junction or within the muscle itself. It manifests as a diminished drive to perform, reduced motivation, and an increased perception of effort for a given task, impacting overall physical and cognitive function.
