Central-Acting Agents

Meaning

Central-acting agents are a class of pharmaceutical compounds or substances that exert their primary therapeutic or physiological effects by directly influencing the central nervous system (CNS), which comprises the brain and spinal cord. These agents modulate neurological function by interacting with specific receptors, neurotransmitters, or signaling pathways within the CNS. This contrasts with peripheral-acting agents that work outside of the brain and spinal cord.
