Cellular Unresponsiveness

Meaning

A pathological state where target cells fail to exhibit the expected biological response despite the presence of adequate or even elevated concentrations of a specific signaling molecule, most commonly a hormone. This condition, often termed resistance, represents a failure in the communication loop between the endocrine system and its target tissues, leading to functional impairment. Clinically, insulin resistance in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a prime example of this widespread phenomenon impacting metabolic health.
