Cellular Thyroid Resistance

Meaning

Cellular Thyroid Resistance describes a physiological state where peripheral tissues exhibit a diminished sensitivity or responsiveness to the actions of circulating thyroid hormones, specifically triiodothyronine (T3). Despite having adequate or even high serum levels of T3, the body’s cells fail to fully transduce the hormonal signal, leading to localized or systemic hypothyroid symptoms. This functional impairment can manifest even when standard pituitary-axis markers appear normal or discordant.
