Cellular Sensitivity Recalibration

Meaning

Cellular Sensitivity Recalibration is the process of intentionally restoring or enhancing the responsiveness of cellular receptors to their corresponding signaling molecules, particularly hormones. When cells are chronically exposed to high concentrations of a hormone, receptor downregulation or desensitization can occur, diminishing the biological effect of that signal. This recalibration is a clinical strategy aimed at reversing this blunted response, thereby maximizing the efficiency of endogenous or exogenous hormonal signals.
