Cellular Scaffolding

Meaning

Cellular Scaffolding refers to the non-cellular, three-dimensional structure, known scientifically as the Extracellular Matrix (ECM), which provides physical support, organization, and a crucial biochemical environment for all cells within tissues and organs. This complex network is composed primarily of structural proteins like collagen and elastin, along with glycosaminoglycans and various adhesion molecules. The structural integrity of this scaffolding is essential for tissue biomechanics, cellular communication, and the proper delivery of hormones and nutrients to the resident cells.
